San Antonio, TX

Thursday March 3, 2005

9:55am  See, last night I ended up at Santa Fe and crashed at Sam's. I hung out with Melissa. I'm trying to gather up the balls to tell her . . . err, I've already told her . . . that I wanna be her boyfriend. I want to give her a once in a lifetime opportunity to come traveling with me. She's a hippie-in-hiding. I don't know though. She has all these issues.

Let's see, this morning I woke up and Sam invited me to eat at the Subway.

10:02am  I forgot to tell you. I'm already downtown. I decided I was going to go downtown and try to get smoked out somewhere.

12:02pm  Eddie hooked me up with a cigarette at Travis Park. I appreciate it, brother.

12:22pm  The generous souls at St. Mark's are handing out sack lunches. Appreciate it, guys.

1:18pm  Drewcella, she goes by Drew gave me a cigarette at the Samm's Shelter. I appreciate it, sister.

1:42pm  Man, I had a good time at the Samm's Shelter. I walked there and nobody would sell me a joint for a dollar. Then I heard this one lady who walked up wanting to buy a joint too. I asked her if she would go in halves with me and she said yeah. We went and sat down and smoked it. She kept the roach, though. I'm walking now. I have decided I'm just going to walk home from here. I've never walked this route in the other direction.

Oh yeah, tons of people recognized me in the park today. Tons of people.

1:58pm  I'm already at the HEB on Commerce and Calaveras. I'm going to take a piss.

                   Turning right on Zarzamora.

2:10pm  I stopped in front of the Fred's Fish Fry. I'm going to stop and do my stretches.

2:27pm  I just checked my compass and I'm turning left on Culebra. I need to go Northwest.

2:29pm  I'm walking down Culebra, right past Elmendorf. All of a sudden I hear somebody yell out of a black Honda CRX, "Hey! Victor Antonio from San Antonio!"

                   I got recognized!

Be sure to send Jen from California my webpage already.

2:34pm  Martin hooked me up with a cigarette at the gas station where Culebra turns into Bandera. I appreciate it, brother.

3:00pm  I had my little lunch break at the Diamond Shamrock. I ate this tuna fish and crackers that I scored at St. Mark's today. It was good.

3:22pm  I'm walking down Bandera and I just passed a sign that says, Spiritual Advisor. It's around the back. In front of Elsa Haircutters. I'm going to walk back there and see if there is a psychic I can talk to. Hmm, it says by appointment only. I walked a little bit more and in front of this AA Auto Source Inc I found a fortune from a fortune cookie on the ground. It says, "A bold and dashing adventure is in your future." That fits me so perfectly.

It's all wet though. I don't know if I should keep it.

3:32pm  I have to make an update. I was just walking up Bandera. Right after I found that fortune, Nick, Luis' brother, my ex step-uncle pulled over and picked me up. Not too long ago Luis had pulled over for me in this same area(1-19-05, 3:57pm).

Nick told me he would take me all the way home, but that he had to stop and get some new tags for his car over at the DMV in Leon Valley close to Grissom and Bandera. I told Nick that I really didn't mind walking from there. I had been walking since downtown and I intended to walk home before he picked me up. He told me it might be like an hour so I just took off walking. He let me tell him my whole story. I wonder what he thinks about it. I got his email too: nrmnrm01@aol.com.

4:32pm  I came over to Leslie's Pools again and talked to Christopher(2-20-05, 11:08am). I got his email address. It's toolbox10@msn.com.

4:38pm  Leroy hooked me up with a cigarette at the Walmart. I appreciate it, brother.

Ruben hooked me and Joseph up with a cigarette here at the Walmart. Joseph said that he had met me at Ingram Park and Ride a long time ago and I had smoked him out. I'll look it up.

4:56pm  The greedy ass on the 610 didn't give me a ride, hehe. Oh yeah, and I had gotten some guy's email address right then. Ah, I guess I'll walk home.

Oh yeah, earlier at Travis Park this one guy saw me and said, "Hey, Victor Gruber, right?" It was this hippie dude. He's like forty something. It turns out that he is Ms. Smith's son. Ms. Smith, my hippie bus driver friend(1-22-05, 4:52pm and 2-13-05, 6:40pm and 2-26-05, 9:35pm). She's always telling me about her son. She had told me once, "Yeah, my son said he saw you today."

5:02pm  I'm walking in front of Wildwood. Some kid just drove by in a red truck and honked his horn and gave me the peace sign.

5:25pm  I've decided I'm going to hike the little creek after Wickersham on Guilbeau to the tennis courts by Braun Station Elementary. To see if there are any balls for my stick. I ran into these twelve and thirteen year old kids walking in the creek. I told them my platform. They were all about it. Except the marijuana part.

5:37pm  I walked a little bit more and there were these two kids playing paintball. These two seventeen year old kids. I told them my story and they listened all wide-eyed. They didn't have email addresses though. I am having a good walk up the creek. When I told those kids, "I'm a long-distance walker/journalist," I asked them, "You've never seen me walking around?" One kid says, "Yeah, I have."

Do you people now see how I was meant to not get a courtesy ride at the Walmart?

5:49pm  Alright, I'm under the power lines now. The creek ran into the power line trail. I'm close to the tennis courts already.

                   Bummer, no tennis balls.

5:54pm  I'm over in front of Braun Station Elementary on King's Cross Street. Oh yeah, and earlier Nick ended up giving me a ride over by Poss Road and Bandera. He had to go to the DMV and get his license or something. I didn't want to wait. I told him I would just walk home from there. He was all, "No, I'll give you a ride. You might have to wait like an hour." I told him, "That's ok. I really don't mind walking. I was going to walk all the way home from downtown anyway and you picked me up." Then I went across the street to Leslie's Pools and I talked to Chris again. He didn't have any weed, but I'm glad I made contact. Then I walked all the way to the Walmart. I opted to not take the nature hike. I want to get seen. I'm glad, because if I would have taken the nature hike I wouldn't have ran into those kids in the creek. It was cool. I had two separate presentations in the creek.

6:06pm  I just got to my mom's house and I realized I lost my keys. See, I'm not sure if I told you, but these shorts that I've had since California, like way over a year, holes have worn in both front pockets. I thought the keychain was too big for it to fall out, so I continued to carry my key in that pocket. I guess in all the hiking it finally fell out. Hey, there's my mom right there.

7:25pm  I'm leaving my mom's house, hehe. My mom had gotten home right when I got home. Good thing, because I lost my key. Oh yeah, my mom told me she was going to develop four cameras for me. She said she would just give me the money. Four cameras is like twenty dollars. I asked her, "Do you think I can get a five dollar advance?" She asked me, "For what?" I told her, "I'm going to buy cigarettes." She told me, "You bought cigarettes the day before yesterday." I told her, "Mom, I'm really generous with my cigarettes. People always give them to me when I don't have any." Anyway, I'm walking to Bob's now, because I got five dollars off her. I'm going to get some marijuana, haha.

I left my one-hitter in the back yard. That sucks. I'm going to go back and get it.

     7:42pm  I'm at the Citgo.

7:37pm  Jim hooked me up with three whole cigarettes at the Citgo. I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

     8:00pm  I'm at Bob's house. Let's see if he's home.

8:03pm  Nicole, Bob's girlfriend was home. She called Bob and let me talk to him. He told me that he would be back in like an hour, if I wanted to come back then. I said alright. I'll come back at nine o' clock. I'm going to walk around and smoke a cigarette. I don't know. Wish I had some weed.

I'm going to sit on the curb and smoke a cigarette.

8:37pm  I'm talking to Juan and his girl Miranda at the Citgo over in Dover Ridge. Neither of them have email addresses, but he's going to give me his mom's. What is it? juanm@yahoo.com

I had a good presentation with these two kids who walked up to the Citgo. Killed time great for the weed.

9:00pm  I'm waiting for the weed guy to get home. I'm talking to Melanie in front of the Citgo. What was your email? krisnmell@msn.com

9:05pm  Sherry hooked me up with a cigarette at the Citgo. I appreciate it, Sherry.

9:07pm  I had some great presentations. I walked back to the Citgo and got a cigarette from the cashier. I think her name is Nikki. Oh yeah, this girl had come out. She kind of looked like a guy so I said, "I don't think I bum a cigarette off of one of you guys?" The girl says, "I'm not a guy." I felt dumb. Anyway, it's about time to go back to Bob's. I had some good presentations at this other Citgo.

11:20pm  I am leaving Bob's house. When I had gotten back to his house they were all outside skinning these catfish they had just caught. The fish were all still alive and breathing. Bill, Bob's dad cooked that fish up real good. Oh, and these dumb girls were there. And then there was this eighteen year old dude who was getting way into the foosball game and all talking shit to me. Telling me that I was going down. And calling me Waldo. He got on my nerves. I felt like just asking him, "Man, why do you have to talk so much shit?" And the girls were ignorant as hell. When I tried to tell them my stuff, in the beginning, one of the girls, the fat girl who was in the military, was ignorant as hell. When I got to the part where I ask, "Wouldn't you work for free . . ." She cut me off and yelled, "No, that's Communism!" Ugh, another nay-sayer. Anyway, she can just wait to hear about it when the rest of the world does.

At least I got my nickel sack. My mom paid for it again, hehe.

     11:45pm  I'm at my mom's house.

Next day..
